I discovered C2 in early 2011 in a search for trading strategies that could help me make my personal trading approach more systematic. Professionally I've always been involved in automated trading.

I've tried out several of the C2 offerings. My results have been mixed, but generally favorable. I prefer to trade manually because I don't like paying the autotrade fees and manual trading gives me a better feel for how the strategy operates. I have a day job, so I autotrade systems with too many signals to follow manually.

Started Auto-trading this at OEC in May-2011. So far I think there has only been one product they do not offer at OEC, despite the broad range of contracts traded by this strategy.

As of 10-Oct my account is down about 10% and the $349 monthly fee is not included in that.

This is a mean reversion system that tries to catch short term reversals in the S&P500. I've followed it for the three worst months of its history and it has been really painful - even though I haven't submitted orders on nearly all the signals.

The developer has modified the system since the drawdown, to add a trending indicator that counterbalances the algorithm's tendency to bet on reversals. This results in quite a few flat position days. A stop loss has also been added, but it still allows 10% of system capital to be lost on a single position.

Too soon to tell whether the changes will make the system a winner again. But recent results have been encouraging.

Difficult, but not impossible, to trade manually (my preferred method because of the excessive auto-trading costs). Some signals come in the middle of the US night. It isn't a 'real' day trading system because it does hold positions overnight.

Despite these drawbacks, the strategy is performing well for me.

A totally discretionary, i.e. not algorithmic, system that generates orders intraday. However, there aren't many orders per day so it can probably be traded manually reasonably well. Very high annual return since Dec 09 and a Max DD of 12%. Holds about 4-5 positions, which are sized for a $350K account.

This is a discretionary system, but the trader appears to have a good touch. It generates too many intraday trades to follow manually. However the monthly fee is only $50, so it may be worth paying the autotrade fee. I like that the Max DD is quite small - only 6% in 10 months of trading history. The trader has shown good ability to make money on both Long and Short trades.

This system has a pretty good track record and has been around for over two years. However, it is long-only and has not been tested during a severe market downturn. Recent performance is showing losing trades that are much larger than the winners. Might be worth a try, but I would trade it manually to try and manage Stops and Exits better. Very helpful system developer.

Although this system generates a large number of orders, it is easy to trade it manually - at least at IB. The developer send our a CSV file that is compatible with IB's Basket Trader product, so they can be easily imported. Other system vendors, or better yet C2 itself, should follow this example.

Difficult to trade manually. Generates up to 50 orders per night. Only Day orders are used, so you have to enter them every night. So many open orders use up all my buying power so, even though there are never too many positions, a $100K account is locked up and unavailable for any other investment. For the ROI I'm getting, it is an inefficient use of capital. This is a long-only strategy that has not survived a serious market pullback yet.

Too many orders (100/day) to be traded manually. The large number of open orders would also tie up a lot of buying power at most brokers.

System has survived for four years on C2 and has an 80% win rate. The annual return is not as impressive because the losing trades are much larger than the winners. Each order is sized at 7.5-8% of the total system equity of $202K. There are normally about 12 positions, so this long-only strategy stays about 90% invested. But somehow it came through 2008 in great shape, posting gains in 9 of the 12 months and an overall gain over 15%. Unfortunately, you can't see how he did it because C2's trade records don't go back that far. It is quite feasible to trade manually as only 6-12 orders are generated per day and these are created in non-trading hours. Worth trying, but I would trade it manually to manage Stops and Exits more closely. System developer, Thomas Sickenberg, is very responsive to questions.

Solid system. Not difficult to trade manually. The only drawback is the large account size. However the actual trading results from 2011 are much less attractive than 2010. Would not use this one until its performance improves.

Very impressive win %. But the average profit per trade is a tiny $40. One big loser can wipe out a lot of little winners. Most trades are entered and exited during the trading day and the duration is very short. Easy to miss trades if you are trading the system manually. At $150/month the subscription fee eats up the P&L for four average winning trades.

Pretty good return during first year. Easy to trade manually. Can be used with ES futures as well as ETF's. Cost is reasonable. Tends to maintain 50% of equity in each initial position. Max drawdown is a bit high, but can easily be controlled with stops.

Cannot trade manually. Signals are sent in the middle of the night. High subscription cost. Would need large capital commit to justify it.
