I was looking at our return for RPH and comparing it to the S+P-500. I found a very interesting tid bit. The S+P-500 is almost exactly flat for the last 12 months. RPH is up around 43% in the same time period.
Not bad.

RPH has had 8 winning trades out of the last 9 if you consider the winning trade we are in. A very good winning streak indeed. When you look closer at the dates it gives us an interesting observation on how RPH works and is suppose to work. Our winning streak started on April 25th. Since then we are up 33%. The S+P-500 is exactly flat during that period.
RPH is an over bought over sold indicator that does well in a flat market. These numbers would seem to prove that case.
I trade RPH with 60% of my 401. I have to use 60% because of the 3 day settlement rule. During that period I am up 20.58% which is exactly what Collective2 calculates I should be.
It would seem Collective2 along with RPH is doing their job very well.
Thank You

Our annualized return is now 58.1%.
I am grateful to see we are up 8.1% for this month. It appears we may end up with 3 winning months in a row. We do have a large open position still in play.
It is good to see our winning percent 64.7% with our winners larger than our losers. Our profit factor is 2 and our Sharpe ratio is .91.
I use the grid a lot to see how my signal stacks up with other stock signals. I put the age at over 365 days and put a 1 in the annual return. I then sort by order of annual return. RPH is currently coming up in 6th place. Because all money making traders will do an intense study on all stock signals before purchasing any signal I am very confident in this signals ability to stand up to the scrutiny.
Every now and then I like to analyze the risk factor as reported in the risk column in each trade. I have given each category a numerical value. Na = 1, low = 2. normal = 3, high = 4, very = 5 extreme = 6. Our average risk after 33 closed trades is 3.3. Or in the middle between normal and high. I don’t believe that is too bad considering the only instrument I have traded in this signal is a 3* leveraged ETF.
I put much importance in all things mentioned in this post. Considering all I believe RPH is panning out to be a very good signal. It seems to make a return any signal vendor can be proud of. More importantly since I am trading this signal exactly as I am publishing it my retirement assets are accumulating.
If anybody has any questions about this signal please feel free to PM me.
Thank You have a good weekend.

Hello,
You have an interesting way of sorting systems by just looking at returns...
After many years in the industry I tough risk was big part of the equation too. So that Sharpe Ratio is a better way - tough not perfect - to compare systems quality.
I encourage you then to sort stocks systems, order than 365 days, by Sharpe Ratio and watch who leads...
Have a great week end.

I cannot disagree the sharp ratio is very important. The advantage I have with my system is I know how it is calculated. The less than 1 sharp ratio does not concern me in the least. It seems like most of the higher sharp ratio stock signals produce a somewhat lower return.
I just went to the grid and put in several searches. As stated using 365 days and above 1% return there are 83 stock systems. When I sort by return RPH comes in 6th. The 5 signals that beat me all have a higher sharp ratio.
When I sort by sharp ratio I come in 30th out of 83 signals. Interesting to note out of the 29 that beat me in sharp ratio only 5 had a higher return. Good job on your number 1 rating there.
I then sorted by profit factor where RPH came in 16th however there was not one signal with a higher profit factor that had a higher return.
I suspect each signal has its own strengths and weakness’ and it is up to the trader to tailor his trading program to suit his own personality.
Thanks for the dialogue I encourage you to continue posting. A good interaction can only teach all that join in.

Interesting to note I have traded RPH exactly since 10/20/11 at 60%. A total of 107 individual trades. Since that time my real life return is just .4% different than what C2 indicates it should be.
I believe that to be a very good accounting on C2's part as what an end of day signal can produce.

RPH was started at the end of June 2011. We have 13 complete months of trading on C2. Out of the 13 complete months 7 are winners with an average winning month up 12.05% and the average losing month down 7.44%.
We have a 65.7% winning trade percentage with our average winning trade larger than our average losing trade.
We are currently showing a 55.5% annual return. We have closed 6 winning trades in a row for the first time and have an open winning trade. Hopefully the open trade will close at a profit giving us 7 winning trades in a row.

TNA appears to be operating in an interesting pattern. Looking at the chart you can see it developed an up trend channel on May 18th and broke out of it on the down side on July 23rd. At that time it appears the support from the previous up trend channel turned into resistance for a new up trend channel. The new up trend channel beginning on July 23rd is still intact and we seem to be on the bottom with more room to go towards the up side.
As I write this message we are .5% in the red for August. Maybe the uptrend will continue for a couple days and we can earn a profit for the month.

We have now been tracked for 14 whole months. 7 winning with an average winning month +12.05% and the average losing month is -5.48%. As you can see our averaging winning month is well over twice as large as our average losing month.
We ended up with a 1.2% loss for August. The S+P 500 was up 1.9% in the same time period.
We are up 22.9% YTD while the S+P500 is up 11.5% YTD. Again we earned twice the return of the market.
We entered our current trade on 08/07/12. Possibly our longest in duration trade with no end is site. Our breadth indicator is very bullish while the market in general slowly trudges downward since 08/20/12. Our portfolio is up 1.07% during this trade while the S+P500 is up .86% since the open on 08/07/12. The relatively sideways market during this trade has affected our internals in a way that indicates we should make a move in either direction to get an end to this trade. An up move in this market could close us out quicker than a down move. A down move in the next week would be disaster because our breadth confirmation has a large move to make to take us short.
I am very proud of our 63.9% win ratio with winners averaging 9.03% larger than our lossers. What makes this trading signal unique is the win loss ratio. I believe all other over bought over sold signals I have developed have a larger losing trade. To have a win ratio over 58% is hard enough to create. To have a win ratio of 63.9% with larger winners than losers is unheard of.
Our 48.7% annual return is good enough to make any trader proud.
Have a Great Memorial Day Weekend!!!!

I just sorted stock and options strategies based on what you said using the grid,
365 days or older
Sharpe ratio highest first
“Options 787” pops up first
When ALL systems are included using same time period including forex and futures
“Options 787” comes up second
The reality is;
There is no perfect or best system/strategy, its what makes an investor feel comfortable and brings profit, some people prefer to bet the whole farm if they have a chance to make a killing, and others prefer a slow/steady approach.

Monday morning on the open we go into a 95% inverse position. Very big position for RPH. Even though it does not affect the signal I still like to look at charts or any other indicator I can pertaining to a trade. Interesting to note my other signal RPH2 is more extreme in how the signal indicates over bought or over sold. It is almost always in a smaller position than RPH. RPH2 is currently 80% inverse going 85% Monday morning.
I have a signal I use for my IRA that has never been published on C2. It is in cash at least half of the time. It is extreme over bought over sold with a confirmation similar to RPH. This signal has also indicated very over bought and indicates going inverse Monday morning.
Everything I look at in the market is showing way over bought. Now when we look at a chart of the S+P-500 it is easy to see it has been in an uptrend channel since the middle of May and it is on the very top of that pattern today. Since the channel is in such a steep up trend it is difficult to believe it can break out of it on the up side.
TNA is on the top of its uptrend channel. It was nice to be in a large position while it made it to the top. TZA on the other hand is at the very bottom of its down trend channel and all of our internals indicate a bounce is in the near future.
In summary it is easy to see a very powerful up trend that is very close to its resistance level.
Just an observation that in no way reflects on my trading. All signals are based on the same principles that have been in place since the inception of RPH.
Enjoy your weekend.

Thank You.
SMA was being held up by the IWM signal. The MDY and QQQ signal failed and was holding the performance down. I started Extreme Trader with the SMA IWM signal and it went thru a drawdown that lasted too long. I eventually cancelled Extreme Trader when I quit trading it with my own money. |

Since I have a couple of new clients onboard this week I feel it time to crunch some of the numbers I like to look at when considering a mechanical signal. As we are all individuals I understand some will place a different value on different statistics. These are some I feel that are important to a signal. Keep in mind this is a 100% mechanical. There is no guessing on my part as to where the market is going or how big our position size is. It is all calculated using the same formula since day 1. Never have I changed the mechanical calculation of this signal.
Since inception we have traded for 16 complete months from July 2011 to October 2012. We have 8 winning months and 8 losing months. Our average winning month is 10.6% and our averaging losing month is 4.83%. There is only 1 losing month November 2011 where the loss in higher than our average winning month.
Our winning trade percentage being 60% is good however when looking at the average winning trade compared to the average losing trade it is very good. This is where I add a little about myself. I became fascinated with developing trading models around 2003. For many years I isolated on my Man cave trying different mechanical formulas to make money trading. I discovered trend trading is not for me and trading overbought oversold is the way to go. What I learned from developing signals is it is very rare for an overbought oversold signal to have a winning trade average larger than a losing trade average. They almost all have the inverse. When you add a larger winning trade with a 60% winning percentage you have discovered a formula for success. Also what I know about winning percentages is 58% is acceptable and can earn you a healthy return you can count on. 60% is a very good winning percentage when you also consider the winning size larger than the losing side.
Collective2 is a great tool for evaluating a signal. One of my favorite things to look at is the risk column in the trading results table. You will notice there are 6 different measures of risk. Na, low, normal, high, very, and extreme. Looking at RPH I have given each category a numerical value. Na = 1, low = 2, normal = 3, high = 4, very = 5 and extreme = 6. When you average these you find an average of 3.02. That is normal and very acceptable for me.
Currently I am trading RPH with 60% of my 401 account value. I have been doing so since Oct 28th 2011. My actual real life account is up 10.5% YTD while the S+P-500 is up 7.63%. Since Oct 28th 2011 I am up 9.3% when the S+P-500 I up 3.87%. Keep in mind I only trade 60% account value to stay in compliance with the 3 day settlement rule in 401’s. Also since Oct 28th 2011 I have more than doubled the return of the market.
I will be publishing a new signal starting Jan 1 combining RPH and RPH=2. Since RPH-2 changes direction more gently trading the new signal will allow me to use 95% of my account and I expect to earn a larger return.
Please feel free to PM me if you have any questions about this signal.
Thank You and Good Luck
Rick Haines

This morning I have done a study of our cash times in this signal. Since inception we have been in cash 12 times for a total of 80 days. Our average cash time is a little over 6 days. The longest being 16 days.
Out of the 12 cash times 7 times we went to the other side of the market and 5 times we went in with the last issue we closed out. It seems like the longer we are in cash the more likely we will go into the market with the same issue as the last trade.
I wanted to find a pattern and try to project the odds of our next trade. I found out of the 12 cash times 5 of the first trades were losers and 5 of the second trades were losers. Looking at the 5 losing trades before the cash time we had 3 times where the second trade was a loser.
It might be tempting to assume a 60% chance of a loss on the second trade when the first trade is a loser, however I don’t consider a study that includes just 5 trades to be an accurate assumption of what lies ahead in a much larger trading program.
Either way it appears the internals have diverged greatly from the breadth and I suspect this may be one of the longer periods of cash.
I have been systematically trading for around 10 years now. Just like yours my trading has and is evolving. I have traded many signals that were in position 100% of the time. I have grown to appreciate my cash time. During my trading when I have been in position for over 6 months I find it somewhat stressful. The daily stress can be destructive. You can easily loss sight of the facts and perceive things that have been altered by stress.
Thanks for being a subscriber to RPH and my client. Please take this cash time we have been blessed with and get your mind off of the daily grind of having your assets in position.

WOW Thanks Steven. I needed that.
I am soon to discontinue RPH and will be trading RPHrevised. It is basicly the same signal however some of the deadwood that is part of the formula is removed.
Thanks. |

It took me a lot of time to built this system. Unfortunately I don't have a lot of subscribers even with low prices. Parcours US Stars |
